Ekaterinburg Museum Centre of Folk Art “Gamayun” was created March 25, 1994. The founder of the new organization was the Office of Culture of the Administration of Yekaterinburg. The museum has become the heir of the existing more than 10 years the Association of Folk Artists and Artistic Crafts “Gamayun”. The name of the Association and the Museum was taken from Russian folklore, in which a bird with a woman’s face Gamayun – ominous prophetess, the keeper of folk tales, patron of craftsmen. “Museum Center” Gamayun “is working with the masters of arts and crafts and unprofessional painters and graphic artists of the Sverdlovsk region.
The museum collection is a collection of works by non-professional craftsmen and artists, whose art in recent decades has become increasingly popular and studied worldwide. In the United States, Europe, Russia (only in Moscow in the 1990s created 2 Museum of Naive Art), the largest public and private museums collect non-professional art and works of the masters of arts and crafts.
A small, very informative and colorful exhibition will be interesting to both adults and a child of any age. Vivid perception of the world, the former always tend to the Russian people, was reflected in the author’s toy made of wood and ceramics, works of amateur artists. Every visitor will find close to the experience of the soul and spirit in the work of craftsmen and artists.
At the heart of the Museum is the concept of “living” museum – the place where the audience could not only see the ready thing, but also to feel the atmosphere of creativity, ignite a spark of interest in the process of creating beauty. For this in the “Museum Center” Gamayun “were discovered artistic and creative workshops: painting, textiles and art stone processing. Workshop – is a wonderful place, where the master can be fun to talk about their favorite business and ready to show the author’s articles.
On the first floor of the Museum opened the exhibition halls, where holds temporary exhibitions of works of our craftsmen and artists. Annually held more than 20 exhibitions of folk art. Organization of exhibitions accompanied by an analysis of the work and the writing of the catalog.
In order to promote artistic crafts are held master classes, classes on various kinds of traditional crafts of the Urals, festivals and creative meetings. During these events master transmits to students a wealth of experience gained over the years of practical work in the craft, as well as work with educational groups.
