The mission of the Museum is to study and popularize the history of Yekaterinburg, contributing to the consolidation of the urban community and the formation of regional identity. Ways to reach these purposes exhibitions, educational programs and research initiatives for collection, recovery and preservation of unique artifacts 18 – 21 centuries.
The Museum is located in building from the beginning of the XIX century, which is the monument of history and culture. The main building was built in 1820 by the postmaster, Laishevskom, a wing built in 1837, a mining engineer A. G. Motion. During its existence it was a hotel, noble estate, apartment house, residential building with communal flats. In the end of XIX – beginning of XX century the building housed the famous private library S. A. Tikhotskii.
On the basis of the Museum is a Children’s Museum center is a special Museum space that stimulates creative and cognitive activity of children and combine exhibition hall, theatre research area and the creative workshop. Here there are theatrical and art classes, reconstruction of national holidays, interactive lessons on the history of the city.
