Zhvanetski once complained that we have completely forgotten the "art of eating," that is, of course, not the process itself, but food as a meal. The meal as something sacred, as a symbol of unity of people, as the process of merging with nature. Its different incarnations are endless. In the religion there is a tradition to pray before a meal, take communion by meal, the food – is a symbol of benevolence to man of higher powers, it is – "our daily bread Give us this day." Of course, art is always attentively peers into food and meal, embodied, meditate, enjoy them eventually. Still life with bread, wine and fruit – is the alpha and omega of painting. Apples and grapes – welcome guests of sculpture, and there is no number of these delicious and fragrant incarnation, we cannot stop looking already for many centuries. Now this issue is waiting for us at the "The meal" recently opened at the Exhibition Hall of the Academy of Civil Service.
"Even when I conceived this exhibition – says Marina Dashevskaya, curator of the exhibition – in a conversation with the artists, it became clear that the topic of food interest to all of them." The exhibition turned out diverse: if Catherine Poedinschikova the theme is embodied in the biblical composition, where Eve tempts Adam with an apple, then Kirill Borodin Russian predilection for dumplings and borscht begins to travel the world, conquering exotic beauties on all continents. In the exquisite still lives of Mirza Mamedov can find smoked, battered frying pan with fried eggs, then simple-rustic pot with potatoes in their skins and suddenly realize how much perfection and charms can be in these simple original forms. And in the picture of Artem Belostotsky we suddenly see some amazing ghost samovar, though it is not just a metal device to boil the tea, but a symbol of the human being, the emblem of comfort, the center of unity of the family.
"The meal" is really rich and luxurious. Just not the meal, but a real feast. Not without reason at the center of the exhibition is a monumental work of the Moldovan artist Vladimir Frumusaki called "The Feast of the princes." The work, painted in oil directly on the old carpet, a picturesque mural dedicated to Niko Pirosmanishvili which, as we know, was a great lover of this banquet entertainment. In his works he repeatedly sang famous Georgian innkeepers – and ritual itself ofthegenerous Georgian feast. With the works of great Frumusaki side by side eastern still lives by Sansyzbek Mirziraimov known Kyrgyz artist. In this still lives are, of course, and luxurious grapes, velvety peaches, and golden melons, in short, everything that relies for the venerable dastarkhan.
The meal is multifaceted. Images and forms of it are truly innumerable. Every nation, every ethnic group creates its own mythology, its fairy tales associated with eating. Remember our tablecloth – Samobranka or German "pot, boil" or pancakes of Mother Mumm – Troll, or buns Freken Bock, which so deftly stole Carlson. All of this is endless. Food – it is also cutlery, feasts rituals, and the famous table – talk, ie, Table Talk, conversations at the table. So when we look at the work of Yuri Pervushin, which shows only a silver spoon, then immediately present the whole life of this spoon which as the darning needle of Hans Christian Andersen, would tell about itself a lot of things. And, looking at the picture "Bread" by Kirill Borodin, Literally smell rye loaf, which to this day remains a symbol of the human hospitality.
